Sustainable accommodation at Coed Cae B&B Dolgellau, Snowdonia

Keeping It Green at Coed Cae B&B

We have installed a state-of-the-art log-fuelled boiler and accumulator tank which supplies both our central heating and hot water demands to the B&B. The domestic hot water supply is also pre-heated using roof mounted solar panels before going through the accumulator tank.

The loft of the B&B has been insulated to exceed current building standards, and the heating is regulated on a room by room basis depending on occupancy.

Rain water is collected in a butt for use on the garden, where we grow some of the vegetables for our evening meals.

Garden refuse is composted in two large purpose built chambers, and we are using these to slowly improve the poor quality soil in our growing areas, thus cutting down on the need for proprietary composts.

Domestic refuse is recycled where possible. All food waste is either composted, fed to the dogs or to our own free range chickens.
